There are 6 different weapons in the game, and your default weapon is the Stygian Blade. The default Sword is the Stygian Blade. You can also unlock five other weapons using Chthonic Keys. They are rewards for your runs. It is a long-range weapon that can do decent damage and does good damage. I would recommend the Heart-Seeking Bow to be your primary weapon. This bow is only 1 Chthonic Key.
Given how fast-paced Hades’ combat is coupled with the enemy’s agile movements, it’s essential to maintain a safe distance when you’re starting out. To avoid enemy attacks, you can quickly use Dash to shoot arrows through columns and defend yourself. To help you kill multiple enemies, Volley Fire is also activated.
Alternative to the Heart Seeking Bow, The Shield of Chaos can be used. This weapon costs just 3 Chthonic keys. You’re able to deal Melee Damage by bashing enemies with this Weapon. Furthermore, hits from the Shield’s Attack can knock enemies back. Bull Rush, another method to attack your enemies and cause severe damage is Bull Rush. You can also hold onto this charge to stop attacks. Lastly, to deal Ranged Damage, you’re able to throw your Shield of Chaos at them. Only three actions are required: Cast, Attack and Special.

In your bedchamber, there’s a mirror to your left when you enter from the Lounge of the House of Hades. This mirror is also known as the Mirror of Night. It shows you all of your Skills, which can be used to gain Zagreus. As mentioned earlier, Skills are persistent in Hades, and it’s for this reason that you’ll want to actively collect Darkness so you can upgrade as many of them as possible.
Among the many Skills you’re able to unlock, the two most essential ones are Death Defiance and Chthonic Vitality. If your HP falls to zero, Death Defiance will stop you being killed. Death Defiance can recover 50% of your HP when you reach Level 1. The best way to improve Death defiance is to go from the bottom rank. This is highly beneficial since you’ll be dying a lot in the game as you learn to fight enemies and to face the challenges that await.
Next is Chthonic Vitality. You can use this to replenish some of your HP after you have finished and move on to the next room. Higher HP will increase your chances of survival. A good idea is to maximize your Chthonic Vitality Upgrades. Later on when you’ve grasped the mechanics, you’ll have the option to reset these Talents by spending 1 Chthonic Key so you can try out other Skills that you deem necessary instead of focusing mostly on HP improvements.
Identify Enemy Tells | Hades
Identifying enemy tells is one of the things you should be learning because this helps you determine the actions you’ll take. Before they strike, enemies will appear glowing. As such, you’ll have to quickly change directions to avoid their hits.
After glowing and shaking, brimstones hit you with a pink beam. Another enemy that you’ll encounter in the first Underworld tier is the Wretched Pest, which throws exploding bombs in your way.
These bombs explode in a very short amount of time, and they have limited AoE. You can avoid them easily. These are just some of the encounters you’ll face as there are a lot of different enemies per tier but they all glow before they attack. What you’ll have to do is to constantly move to stay alive, which I’ll be discussing further in the next section.
Hades: Always move around and make the most of what you see.| Hades
You’ll have to adapt to procedurally-generated chambers because of how tough most encounters are. You can do this by running quickly or sprinting. To improve your dodge, you’ll have to unlock Greater Reflex in the Mirror of Night in order to dash twice in quick succession. To stop your enemies, each chamber has several pieces.
To accomplish this, you can use traps, bombs and collapsing columns. Volley Fire can also be used to fire arrows. This not only targets the target but causes the collapse of nearby columns. It can also cause further damage.
To lure enemy soldiers, you can use bombs and your arrows to detonate the explosives. At the same time, you’re outside the AoE since you’re wielding a bow from afar. Continuous movement can improve combat efficiency, so make sure to take full advantage of your surroundings.
Hades| Hades
After successfully clearing a chamber, you get a reward that corresponds to the reward icon you’ve selected prior to entering the room. The numerous icons at the start can be confusing especially when you’re made to choose between two rewards. This system is extremely beneficial to players, even though it’s complex. It allows you farm any artifacts you desire.
For instance, to unlock Death Defiance as soon as possible, you’ll have to choose chambers with Darkness as the reward. Darkness is a purple-colored stone that looks like a teardrop. Next, there’s the Boons of the Olympians, which change your playstyle. For instance with Zeus, you’re able to utilize chain lightning to strike multiple enemies at once. You should avoid choosing reward icons that have two Boons, as these are harder to use. These chambers are generally more difficult to deal with since you’ll face the wrath of the god whose Boon you haven’t chosen. After successfully pulling through, however, you’ll get both Boons.
In order to increase their levels and improve the bonuses you receive, you’ll need to select the Pom of Power reward. Lastly, you’ll want to collect Charon’s Obol, which is the game’s money, to buy more Boons, Centaur Hearts, and other upgrades from Charon.

Infernal Troves allow you to take tests and earn more rewards. One case allows you to gain 100 HP if you kill your enemies quickly. You will lose HP the quicker you kill your enemies.
Hades: Hades is the place to find great keepsakes.| Hades
You can add more power to your character with keepsakes. They can be obtained by giving Nectars or NPCs. You can unlock all of them by giving each NPC one Nectar. There are twenty Keepsakes available, but you can only access one at a time.
These three precious keepsakes are Evergreen Acorn, Lucky Tooth, and the Old Spiked Collar. Your HP can be improved by the Old Spiked Collar and Lucky Tooth. You can increase your HP start by up to 50 depending on what rank the Lucky Tooth is. After your HP has been exhausted, however, you will see a slight increase in the second.
You can still get the Evergreen Acorn while you wait. This protects against damage caused by bosses. You have the ability to adjust to boss fighting styles and this can be especially beneficial for last encounters before moving to the Underworld Tier. You can get keepsakes from the gods in order to share your experience with others.
Athena’s Owl Pendant ensures that the next Boon you receive is from her. Furthermore, there’s also a chance to receive rare or better quality powers. This is the same for the other Olympian’s Boons as well.
Focus on Unlocking Work Orders | Hades
After playing for an hour or two, you’ll eventually unlock the House Contractor, which provides chamber and house renovations. To gain access to these renovations, you’ll need to spend Gemstones, which are part of the standard reward pool. Cosmetic enhancements are not available in all tabs.
To make chamber encounters much more manageable, you’ll have to unlock Work Order Renovations. You can add these permanent upgrades to any run. Fountain Chambers grant you access to rooms that can restore HP. Keepsake Collection makes it easy to change between Keepsakes as you progress through the Underworld levels.
Infernal Troves can only be engaged if you unlock the Plunder Lower Work Order. Prioritize unlocking the other Work Orders first before you purchase cosmetics.
Dying Isn’t the End | Hades
Dying in Hades doesn’t feel begrudgingly painful because you’re able to learn more about the lore of the Underworld as well as the gods and supporting NPCs. Additionally, you’ll have the chance to give Nectars to these NPCs, who in exchange will supply you with useful Keepsakes.
