ItThis Pillars of Eternity 2, Deadfire Build Guide we’re going to be taking a look at the Spellblade Class, which is a mixture of Wizard and Rogue. I’ll be providing information on AttributesWeaponsArmor,And most importantly, what Abilities to take and how to use themPlease see the following: Please keep in mind that this is my Spellblade Build and there are plenty of ways you can build this class and this is not the only one. If you’re new to Pillars Of Eternity 2This Guide may be for you if you love to create characters. This Build Guide has been updated to the latest 5.0 game version and 1.01 console versions (January 20th 2020). It works both with Real Time with Pause or Turn-Based.

Spellblade Build guide

The Spellblade combines the Rogue’s ability to RiposteWith the Wizard Class’s high defense and defensive buffs, you can protect yourself against misses melee attacks. It allows you to tank with great damage and many enemies. If you’ve been looking for a Riposte Tank BuildIf so, this one is for you.

The summoned weapons are used to build this Build Citzal’s Spirit LanceThe., which targets the targeted target in an AoE. Ripostes are able to do massive damage against enemies close by you and allow for the use of negative status effects, which further increases their chance of being missed and further boosts your damage. If you are using Gouging StrikeAll enemies will be blinded, you can put DoTs onto them, do more damage, and you can make them Flanked. You will be able to then gain access to your Sneak AttackBonus against them and your DeathblowsBonus, while also protecting you against attacks.

You can use this weapon to Riposte every enemy.

Spellblade Subclasses

I chose no subclass to be my wizard, simply because I need skills from Conjuration, Illusion and Enchanting and I cannot specialise without one of these Schools. This is something you don’t want to miss. Llengrath’s Displaced ImageYou can choose Conjurer and Blood Mage is the other subclass you should consider. This is also a good option. Only problem is that Empower can be used to replenish Rogue Guile. You can choose to use either, it’s up to your preference.

Rogue was my choice StreetfighterYou want this Build to shine so you should be around as many people as possible. Since this should be the vast majority of the time, you really don’t have to worry about the penalty all that often. You can choose No Subclass as well, but I find it less effective for what we’re trying to do, unless you’re playing Turn-Based. Turn-Based doesn’t really need the reduced Recovery Time, and you don’t want to be Bloodied if possible, so you don’t really need the Weapon Crit damage.

streetfighter

Streetfighters have a reputation for being a fast and aggressive group that can inflict great damage when they are around others.

Spellblade Armor and Weapons

As mentioned above the weapon you want to use for this Build is Citzal’s Spirit Lance, because it hits in an AoE for ~50% of the damage to the initial target each time you attack, and has a pretty wide AoE. You can’t unlock this ability until you are level 13. So you must use another tool earlier in the game. Because of their versatility, daggers are a good choice. Weapon AbilityIncreases your Deflection and you should use 2 weapons. This will give you the best results until you have the Lance.

Spellblade

I will gouge all my enemies.

On the Armor front you can get a way with lighter Armor because of the Wizard buffs, but you’ll probably want at least Light Armor, especially until you gain access to more of these buffs. Enemies will have a very difficult time hitting you later in the game when you can Blind many enemies at once, however, a bit extra Armor doesn’t hurt until then. If you’re playing Turn-Based feel free to wear Medium or Heavy for further protection, as Recovery Time is not as important.

Spell Blade Abilities

In this section we’re going to cover the “must have” Spellblade Abilities for this Build. You are free to pick and choose which you want outside of these because everyone’s style of play is different and there is no perfect way. For this Build to be effective, however, you will need these.

Wizard Abilities

Spirit Shield – A good early game source of Armor and Concentration. Best taken during Character Creation.

Mirrored Image – A good way to boost your Deflection because of the nerf to Llengrath’s Displaced Image. They cannot stack.

Llengrath’s Displaced Image – This is your go to damage reduction buff for most of the game. It’ll help keep you alive long after you should have died, and it has a very long Duration that is only boosted further by our high Intellect.

Ironskin – Later in the game this will replace Spirit Shield as your go to Armor buff. With your other buffs, +5 Armor makes it almost impossible to kill.

Citzal’s Spirit Lance – This spell obviously makes this Build work, so it’s a must have. This spell is available once you have reached level 13.

Arcane Reflection – This spell makes you reflect spells back at casters, which is just awesome period. It’s your right to enjoy the spell!

Wall of Draining – This ability allows you to maintain your buffs even longer, and debuffs enemies at the same time.

Martial Caster – This will help you summon your Lance faster, but not a whole lot faster. It’s impossible to summon the Lance faster than this, so let us take it. Don’t take this if you’re playing Turn-Based.

Rogue Abilities

Blinding Strike – This ability Blinds the target, which puts a ton of debuffs on them. Combining the Spirit Lance and this ability, you can blind all enemies within one strike.

Dirty Fighting – This ability increases the likelihood our shots will Crit by 10% if we Hit so we take it. Anything that might increase our potential damage is what we’re after, and Crits do more damage.

Two-Handed Style – This passive will give us a flat 15% damage increase to the Lance which is fantastic. Grab this passive as quickly as you can.

Gouging Strike – This upgrade of Blinding Strike puts a Raw Damage bleed on the targets as well, which further increases our damage.

Riposte – You can’t be a Riposte Tank without this ability so get it as soon as you hit level 10.

Adept Evasion – This further increases your chances of enemies missing you when they attack your Reflex.

Tumbling – This ability will give you +20 Deflection vs Disengagement attacks, which will be useful in triggering more Ripostes if you move around a bit.

Uncanny Luck – Another passive that helps further increase our Crit chance. This one we take because, why not?

Deep Wounds – This passive puts a Raw Damage DoT on your target if you strike with a weapon, which isn’t super helpful earlier on in the game, but as enemies start to gain larger Health pools it will help out a lot.

Slippery Mind – This ability gives you Immunity to Mind Afflictions when Bloodied, which you are aiming to be anyhow. This ability will help you protect yourself against any kind of evil effects.

Deathblows – Provides +50% Damage against enemies with 2 or more Afflictions. This one is taken because enemy will always have more than two.

Improved Critical – This passive increases our Crit Damage by 10% which we will need. Anything that causes more damage should be considered a top priority.

Spellblade Attributes

In this section we’ll cover Attributes for the SpellbladeAnd explain a bit about each and why we need it or why it’s important. Spellblades need Perception, Intellect and Resolve. Their attacks are connected by perception, so it is crucial to do as much damage possible. Intellect helps with the AoE radius of the Lance’s attack and the long Duration of their buffs and Debuffs. You can get more Ripostes by using Resolve. DexterityIt’s nice to have some, but it is possible to get by with less here due the Streefighter passive. ConstitutionAnd Might are not really necessary here, but I wouldn’t dump either of them.

Your ability to connect with your attacks is dependent on perception. Each attack should either be Hit or Cri. Crits can also help increase the duration of any negative effects that you have on enemies. You’ll want this around 15 or so, but higher is always better.Because Intellect can increase the AoE of your attacks, it is crucial to hit as many targets possible. Intellect also has an impact on the duration of all your buffs as well as the duration of any debuffs. This stat makes this Build a fantastic one. You’ll want this at 15 ish.Resolve is dumped in nearly every Build out there because it’s just not that good. This is where we use Resolve to boost our Deflection by just a little bit. Because you shouldn’t be getting hit often, and you gain a damage increase to Crits when Bloodied, its a good idea to keep your Constitution a bit lower than you would on most tanks. You can choose to take Constitution if necessary.

Spellblade End Tips

Human is an excellent choice for this Build because you should be Bloodied sometimes due to average Constitution, even if you aren’t really trying to be. You will have a higher Accuracy score and damage, which can be a great bonus. The increase in to Nature Godlike can also be achieved by choosing this option. Power Level, which helps to improve the Spirit Lance’s performance.

Gouging Strike is a great way to take control of situations when you are being surrounded. You can use this ability to blinded and flank all your enemies. This will grant you Sneak Attack and Deathblows bonuses damage. You also receive 2 Raw Damage DoTs from it, one from Deep Wounds, and one from your ability. To further hinder enemies, your next attack should include any Rogue ability which sets a debuff.

gouging_strike

The Gouging Strike can be used to blind enemies. It puts a lot of debuffs around enemies and allows you to use subsequent strikes to get the Sneak Attack, Deathblows, and other bonuses.

You can use any ability or item that increases your Disengagement Deflectivity to build this. This will allow you to prompt more attacks via Disengaging, which should lead in more Ripostes. This allows you to position your weapon correctly to strike the maximum number of targets without being damaged. This is what I love about my. TumblingThese are the items that were listed.

Lastly, not all Deflection bonuses stack and you’ll want to pay attention to which do in order to maximize your performance. For example, Mirrored Image and Llengrath’s Displaced Image don’t stack Deflection, so you will only get the higher of the two values if you use both. Since Llengrath’s Displaced Image was nerfed heavily, you’ll want to cast both of these Abilities, however, in order to gain high Delfection as well as Hit to Graze reduction and increased Reflex defense.

stacking (1)

The Deflection bonus of these two abilities don’t stack, so keep that in mind when casting buffs.
