A survey shows that 46.6 Million Americans will bet on NFL

According to a survey released Wednesday by American Gaming Association, 46.6 million Americans will place bets on the NFL’s season. This is 3% more than last year.

The NFL season begins Thursday. 31 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia have established legal betting markets. A few more are looking to enter the bookmaking industry in the next months. California’s voters will decide in November whether legal sports betting is allowed in their state.

According to the AGA: In 2022, $50.4 billion had already been placed with American sportsbooks.

Morning Consult, a data company, conducted the survey among 2,210 Americans for AGA in late August. These are the survey results:

• 23 million American adults plan to bet online this season, up 18% from 2021, while 10.6 million plan to bet in-person.

• 13% of NFL bettors say they will use an unlicensed bookmaker this season, a 2% year-over-year decrease. According to the survey, betting with bookies in states that have not legalized sports betting was 50% more.

• 89% of Americans who bet on sports the past year indicated that it is “very or somewhat important” to bet with a legal, regulated sportsbook.

AGA President and CEO Bill Miller stated that the sustained interest in NFL betting reflects the continued growth and maturation of legal sport betting across the country. He made this statement in a press release. “Consumers clearly desire legal betting options and are aware of the industry’s commitments to accountability.”

September is Responsible Gaming Education Month. The survey revealed that 92% American sports gamblers are well-versed in responsible gambling.
