NEW YORK — Yankees One step closer to restoring one of their most powerful sluggers to the lineup
Giancarlo Stanton Workouts will be done before Friday’s match against the Toronto Blue Jays Manager Aaron Boone said Friday that the former MVP would return to Somerset Patriots for a rehabilitation assignment if everything goes according to plan.
Boone stated, “We’ll eventually reach that point (of getting he in the outfield),” “But first, if you want him to be in the DH position, get him back in. After that, we’ll… almost exactly like last year where we built upon the run — the outfield representatives, we’ll hopefully make it a part at one point, but not necessarily immediately.”
If all goes well for Stanton he will face Luis Severino Live batting practice Tuesday
After suffering a low grade strain to his lat on July 14, Severino is closer to a full recovery. He was transferred to the 60 day injured list, which authorizes him to return mid-September. Severino had a strong year prior to the injury. He had a 3.45 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and 86 innings of 16 games in 2022.
Yankees righty claimed he was prepared to face live batters.
Severino stated that he doesn’t feel as though he’s recovering from any major injury. “I feel pretty good. Arm feels pretty good.”
Boone did not also commit to Aaron Hicks Being given consistent playing time as a player moving forward. Boone did not answer the question “Do you see Hick as a starter?”
Boone stated, “Not today but we have discussed how baseball can change things in a heartbeat.” “One big play or one big opportunity and you’re in there, and all of the sudden you’re running with things.”
Hicks has struggled all season, hitting.217/.338/.304, with six homers across 103 games and 309 at-bats. August, however, has been especially brutal. He hit.116/.208/.116, with five hits in 43 of his at-bats.
Boone stated, “They’ll get back in there at some point. Right now off the bench.” “We’re trying our best to win ball games, and he should find a way that he can be part of that.”
