Andrew Porter, Ireland’s prop, was cited for a high-tackle during the Test series-clinching win against New Zealand on Saturday.

Wayne Barnes issued Porter a yellow card and he was following a head to head collision with Brodie Retallick (All Blacks lock) in the second period of Ireland’s 32-22 historic victory.

James Sherriff, the match citing commissioner, has reported that the forward from Ireland was being cited. He will face a disciplinary hearing via videolink on Tuesday.

Retallick sustained a fractured cheekbone during the incident. He is expected to be out of work for at least six more weeks.

World Rugby announced that Andrew Porter (Ireland’s prop) was scheduled to attend an independent disciplinary hearing. He had been cited by James Sherriff (Australia), in relation to an act of foul play, which is against Law 9.13 (a player cannot tackle an opponent too early, late, or dangerously) during Ireland’s Test match against New Zealand.

“The player will appear via video link before an impartial judicial committee chaired Adam Casselden in Australia, joined by Stefan Terblanche (South Africa), and Frank Hadden (Scotland).

Saturday’s win in Wellington was only the second ever for Ireland in New Zealand. It came one week after their first victory, which tied the series at 1-1.

This result pushed Ireland to the top in the world rankings, only the second time that World Rugby has used its rankings system since 19 years ago.

Andy Farrell’s men beat France. Andy Farrell’s men also surpass France. France is 0.62 behind.

Ireland was the previous leader of the rankings during a two-week period in September 2019.
