On Wednesday, Fried was announced by the Braves as their Opening Day starter against Cincinnati. This will be Fried’s second consecutive Opening Day appearance.
Fried pitched six scoreless innings and allowed only four hits in Atlanta’s 7-1 win over the Astros to win their first World Series title since 1995. Fried, 28 years old, was 14-7 with a 3.04 ERA. He also had two shutouts in 2021.

Morton, 38, went 14-6 last season with a 3.34 ERA. He broke his leg during Game 1 of the World Series, but is now fully recovered.

As the Braves open the season, they will be using a six man rotation. This is because they have to play 14 consecutive days before their first off-day. The Braves will then return to a 5-man rotation.
