Brian Flores, ex-coach of the Miami Dolphins joins the Steelers to serve as defensive assistant/LB coach

PITTSBURGH — Former Miami DolphinsBrian Flores, head coach, has moved into a new place.

The Pittsburgh SteelersFlores, who is currently suing the NFL, three teams and the NFL, announced Saturday the hiring of Flores as a defensive coach and linebackers coach.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin announced that Brian Flores would be joining his coaching staff. He is known for his experience in teaching and developing defensive players. “Brian Flores’ resume speaks for himself, and I look forward he adding his expertise to aid our team.”

Flores’ hire will significantly increase a defensive unit, which recently saw Teryl Austin being promoted to defensive director following Keith Butler’s retirement. Austin also coached the team’s outside linebackers.

Flores served Miami as its head coach for three seasons and had a record of 24-25. He was fired last month. Prior to that, he was defensive playcaller for Miami. New England Patriots, including in Super Bowl LIII.

Flores, aged 40, filed a suit against the NFL, the Giants and Dolphins, and Broncos this month. He claimed discrimination in his interview process in New York and Denver, and in his firing from Miami.

Flores claimed, among other things that Stephen Ross, Dolphins owner, offered Flores $100,000 per loss in 2019 as a way to get a top draft choice.

Flores also claimed that the Giants only interviewed Flores in January for their head coach vacancy. Flores said that a similar scenario took place in 2019 when he was being interviewed by the Broncos.

The NFL is hiredFlores’ claims were defended by a law firm that also includes Loretta Lynch, an ex-U.S. Attorney General.
