California agency approves Oakland Athletics $12B stadium plan

SAN FRANCISCO – A California agency has opened the door for the SAN FRANCISCO International Film Festival on Thursday. Oakland Athletics Continue planning for a $12 Billion waterfront ballpark project.

The San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission approved 23 to 2 a reclassification of a 56-acre terminal at Port of Oakland to mixed-use. This would allow for the construction of a new ballpark. This vote is just one of a number of legal hurdles that the team will have to clear before they can break ground on the project.

Following the advice of its staff, the commission decided to remove the terminal from port use. The team found that it would not affect the region’s ability to handle the anticipated growth in cargo.

The Athletics have been looking into plans to move to Nevada and locate a place for a new Las Vegas Stadium.

Although the Oakland City Council approved preliminary terms last year, A’s President Dave Kaval stated that the financial terms weren’t right for the team. Kaval stated that the team was following “parallel tracks”, planning new baseballparks in Oakland, and Las Vegas.

The proposal by the A includes a privately funded 35,000-seat waterfront park at Howard Terminal that is $1 billion in size. It currently serves as an overflow parking area for trucks and containers. The project would also include 3,000 residential apartments, office and retail space, as well as hotel rooms and an indoor performance centre.

The lease of the aging RingCentral Coliseum will be extended by the team through 2024. According to the league, rebuilding at the current location would not be an option. Major League Baseball ordered Oakland’s brass to investigate relocation options in the event of a lack of agreement regarding a ballpark.

After the NBA’s Golden State Warriors and NFL’s Raiders moved to Las Vegas, the A’s remain the only professional baseball team in Oakland. Some of the 400,000 residents of the Bay Area pleaded with the council to do more to preserve the team and the coliseum jobs.
