McLaurin did a double-move, and the play was not a back-shoulder throw. The play turned into one, and McLaurin made a great throw. The play was a positive step in the development of chemistry between McLaurin and Wentz for the coaches. This is an important step forward for the passing game as Commanders prepare to host. McLaurin admitted that he understands we are going through growing pains. “But his demeanor, and mine make for a solid foundation together with the other guys in our room. Wentz is a great leader for the huddle. Both coaches and players love it. He is also more involved at the line. On Tuesday, he motioned for a rookie tight end Curtis Hodges to find the correct split in the play. Hodges did this and Wentz connected in rhythm with him on a crossing route.
McLaurin stated that Saturday’s touchdown was notable because it was the first time they had ever used this concept in camp.
McLaurin explained, “When plays like this where you don’t get to rep them very often and you connect, it gives you a lot more confidence.”
