Northampton is fifth in the Premiership Table, according to Chris Boyd.

Northampton Saints director Chris Boyd has been expelled for two games because he criticized a referee.

After Sarries players received no yellow cards, Leal claimed that Leal did not have enough nuts.

Boyd will not be able to attend the Champions Cup games against Ulster Saturday and Racing 92 Sunday 23 January.

Boyd was confirmed by Saints earlier this week will step down from his job at the end of the season.

Phil Dowson will take over his duties in New Zealand. He will also return to New Zealand. However, he will remain an advisor to the club.

Boyd attended a virtual hearing of independent discipline on Thursday. He admitted to a charge that Boyd had prejudicated the interests of the sport.

After the match, he was quoted to have said: “He didn’t have enough nuts. It was a clear hinge. In that series of scrums, only one side was under pressure.

Martin Picton, chairman of the Disciplinary Committee, said that the panel decided that the offence was one amounting disrespect to the authority and that Chris Boyd’s comments should be classified verbally abuse of the referee.

“The panel decided that Mr Boyd was entitled at all times to mitigation. This was in light of his admission of the charge, his apparent and genuine regret at his choices of words, his apology addressed directly to the referee in concern even before the potential misconduct charge had been raised, his outstanding character material submitted in support, and his impeccable discipline record.”

Boyd will be suspended along with Saints players, staff and officials. Boyd also has to give talks to local clubs and schools about respecting match officials.
