Cleveland Browns lose WR Jakeem Grant due to Achilles injury

BEREA (Ohio) — Additional tests have confirmed that Cleveland Browns Wide receiver and kick returner Jakeem Grant Sr. ESPN has learned that the Achilles tendon is torn, according to a source.

Grant was injured in a drill and had to be transported off the field on Tuesday.

Before the results of the follow up tests were announced, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski stated Tuesday that he felt terrible for Jakeem. “We have seen the hard work that Jakeem has put in since he joined our team. While we all know that injuries are part of the game, it doesn’t make them any less difficult to accept, especially for someone like Jakeem who works so hard and is as humble as he is.

Grant was signed by the Browns to a three year deal in this offseason. Grant was being trained as a kick and punt returner. Grant also had a great training camp as a slot receiver.

Grant, a Pro Bowl returning player for the Chicago Bears Last season, had four punt return touchdowns. There were also two scores on kick returns. This was in a career that started with the Miami Dolphins 2016

Mike Priefer, Browns special team coordinator, said earlier this week that Grant would “transform” Cleveland’s return-game.

Grant is out so the Browns are likely to turn to Demetric Felton Jr. To return kicks or punts.
