Cleveland Browns use franchise tags on TE David Njoku

The Cleveland BrownsThe franchise tag was placed on a tight end David NjokuThe team announced the news Monday.

Teams have until Tuesday, April 4, to name franchise players. ET.

Njoku has had 148 receptions with the Browns over five seasons, including 36 for 475 yard and four touchdowns last year.

His best season came during quarterback Baker MayfieldIn 2018, Njoku’s rookie season, he had a career-best 56 receptions for 639 yards. Njoku’s production declined rapidly after being targeted 88 more times in 2018.

Njoku (26 in July) changed agents and asked for a trade with Cleveland. After the start of training camp, he decided to rescind his request.

Njoku was the 29th overall selection in the 2017 Browns draft. He was paid $6.01million last season, after the team exercised its fifth-year option.
