Derek Jeter discusses his future in baseball following the Miami Marlins’ exit

Nearly five months later, he resigned as CEO Miami MarlinsDerek Jeter said he was open for a return to the sport at some point.

The Hall of Fame shortstop New York Yankees Legend spoke out about his future in baseball during an interview with Hannah Storm, ESPN’s anchor, ahead of the July 18 debut of seven-part ESPN series “The Captain.”

“I love this game. Storm asked Jeter about his love for the game and if he plans to keep playing. “I believe it’s one of the most important games in the world. “So yeah, it’s the greatest game in the world.

Jeter won five World Series rings in his 20-year-long career with the Yankees. He joined the Bruce Sherman-led group which purchased the Marlins (from Jeffrey Loria) for $1.2billion in September 2017. Jeter was awarded a 4% stake in the franchise. He gave it up when he left, but was charged with running the business and managing baseball operations. The Marlins were 218-327 in four seasons under Jeter. However, they made it to the postseason in the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season.

Jeter, 48, announced he was leaving the organization A Feb. 28 statement was sent by a news-release distributor to the Marlins. It stated that it was “the perfect time for me” to step aside while a new season began.

Storm asked Jeter to explain his exit from Marlins. Jeter replied, “It’s exactly like the statement that I made. I think that the organization’s direction had changed. That wasn’t what I signed up for. And you know, you have to believe the direction, especially if it is going to be the forward-facing face.

“I couldn’t go on, and I wouldn’t accept the direction the organization was heading.”

Jeter was a star on Yankees teams which had one of the highest payrolls. However, he previously admitted to being impatient while managing a team with smaller pockets and shorter contention windows. At the start of each season, the Marlins payrolls were among four of the worst in the game.

Jeter spoke with Storm about why he chose to tell his story and the lessons he learned from making the documentary.

He stated, “The best thing I could do in this documentary was to let people know how I felt at that time and how I handled it.” Your mind changes and you realize that there were some things you could have done differently. But, that is what got me through New York. This organization is a town where if you don’t do your job, they’ll hire someone else. It was 20 years that I lived in New York and it was a great place to play. I found the best way to deal with it.

Jeter’s reputation for being private and cautious over his time in New York allowed him to steer clear from controversy in one of most scrutinizing media market in the world.

Storm was able to understand his explanation. “My job was limit distractions. Before and after each game, I was always in front of my locker. “I would only address the issue once, and that’s all I would do. That was how I dealt with it.”

He stated that his “No. He said that his “No.

However, that doesn’t mean he wasn’t having some fun along the way.

“I was 20 years old when I went to New York. We won four World Series titles in the first five years. We were the toast in the town. It was also a lot of fun. There was no stopping you from trying to win.

Jeter also mentioned his decision to finally join social mediaHe has a total of 687,000 followers on Instagram and Twitter.

He stated that he tried to preserve a sense of privacy during his career. “People have tried for a long while to get me to join social media, and eventually I did.” [decided I wanted to show] A different side to me, so it is.

“I guess I ran out of excuses.”
