Edmonton Oilers extend defenseman Darnell Nurse on 8-year deal

EDMONTON — Alberta Edmonton OilersOn Friday, signed the defenseman Darnell Nurse to an eight-year contract extension. It has an average annual cost of $9.25m and is expected to begin in 2022-23.

The 26-year old alternate captain was there for all 56 Oilers games in the last pandemic-shortened season.

His 36 goals and 20 assists ranked him second in NHL goal scoring. His stats, including hits, blocks, points and assists, were second to none among Oilers defencemen.

The Oilers selected Nurse seventh in the draft of 2013. She has played in 406 games.
