Breaking news

Franco Smith, the Glasgow Warriors’ head coach, has been hired on a 2-year contract.

The former coach for Italy, 50, was the most recent head of high-performance.

Following the loss to Leinster in quarter-final play off of the 76-14 United Rugby Championship, Warriors parted company with Danny Wilson.

Smith said, “I have been following Glasgow for a while, since I was a coach at Benetton in 2010, when they joined Pro12.”

“The style they play is loved by their fans and it appeals to me.

“My coaching goals are to coach a winning brand and a style that fans love.

“There are opportunities in Glasgow to help the pathway for up and coming players. We want to make sure that we develop creative, fit, and knowledgeable players from a young age, which we will take all the way to Scotland.”

Glasgow will begin their new season in Italy against Benneton the weekend of 16-18 Sept., before meeting Cardiff in the first home match the next weekend.
