Johann van Graan will be replaced by Graham Rowntree as Munster’s head coach in July.

Former England prop is now forwards coach for the Irish province. He has been promoted to the top on a 2-year deal.

“I am enormously honored to be taking over as head coach for club of this caliber,” stated the 50-yearold.

“It’s one that is so important to me and my family. It is an amazing group of players and staff that I have the privilege to work with.”

Van Graan is leaving to take over as Bath’s head coach, with Stephen Larkham as assistant coach and JP Ferreira as defence coach.

Rowntree, who had just completed his Rugby World Cup coaching duties for Georgia, joined Munster in Oct 2019.

He also served as a coach with the British and Irish Lions.

Rowntree said: “We have a common goal every day in striving to make this club a success.” I’ve spoken before about the amazing supporters and this weekend, we were greeted with a warm welcome in Exeter. It’s a special event that everyone wants to be part.

“I believe we have the right structures and the facilities to match. I am confident that the transition for the coach ticket we create will be smooth and allow us to continue our development and success.

“Before then, I have a job to finish this season. Working closely with Johann, Steve and JP is my immediate priority.

“I have made my thoughts regarding this club well known throughout my time here. It really was an easy decision for me and my family, almost a non-decision. We are rooted here and will not move.
