Houston Texans rookie CB Derek Stingley Jr. is expected to be available for Week 1.

Houston Texans Lovie Smith, coach, said that he expected rookie cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. To be prepared for Week 1.

Smith replied, “Yes, I do.” This ramp up period is for players who are coming out of major injuries. We will help him get used to it. We love watching him run. We got him to do a few plays. He is now on his schedule.”

Stingley is the No. 1 pick for the Texans. After suffering a Lisfranc injury to the left foot, Stingley, the Texans’ No. 3, played in just three of LSU’s 13 games in 2021.

Stingley has not participated in drills for team during OTAs and training camp because the Texans are watching his progress.

Stingley’s performance has been impressive, even when he is only doing a little.

“Stingley has that demeanor.” Brandin Cooks said. He reminds me of a man I used to play with. He’s a quiet guy. Come out and he’ll be about business.
