James Saxon is the assistant coach of Arizona Cardinals and faces two domestic battery allegations stemming out of an alleged incident that occurred in May.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Arizona Cardinals James Saxon, the running backs coach was charged with two counts for domestic battery. He also received a Level 6 felony in connection to allegedly assaulting a female in front a child less than 16 years.

According to probable cause affidavit, the charges stemmed from an alleged incident that occurred May 7, which began with an argument at a Costco in Indianapolis and ended at the residence of the woman.

Saxon’s case is currently in a hold pattern until Aug. 25, during which an attorney conference has been scheduled and a trial could be set.

The Level 6 crime (lowest in Indiana) can result in a sentence of anywhere from six months to 2.5 years imprisonment and a fine of up $10,000. The Class A misdemeanor charge can result in a sentence range of up one year in prison, and a possible fine of up $5,000.

Saxon is still the Cardinals’ coach, having opened training camp July 26.

Thursday’s statement from the team stated that they are investigating the matter.

According to court records, Saxon was arrested on May 25, but the warrant was recalled on June 8. According to court records, Saxon was released on a $2,000 bond. A week later on June 15, Saxon was served with a restraining notice. Saxon was then fitted with a GPS tracking device. It was removed against the objections of the state on July 21. Saxon is accused for assaulting the woman in an argument that took place at the house she shares with her mother, in front of her two children.
