James Wiseman of the Golden State Warriors participates in contact drills, his first since a knee injury

SALT LAKE CITY Golden State WarriorsCenter James WisemanOn Tuesday, I participated in contact drills for the first-time in 10 months. Also, I took part in a three-on-3 scrimmage following practice in Salt Lake City.

This is a significant victory for Wiseman who was out since last April when he tore his meniscus.

Warriors guard Stephen CurryESPN. “And once he starts playing, hopefully that he can stay in rotation, stay off injury list, and get reps. He is still young and has much to learn. You can only learn by doing it, and getting out there. Understanding what NBA basketball looks like. He should be able to share all he has seen in such a short time.

“I am excited for him. There are still some hurdles to cross before he can return to the floor. But he has an amazing chance to join us at just the right moment to see what he could offer.

Bob Myers, Warriors general manger, stated last week that Wiseman has “walked up on the doorstep of contact” several times. Each time the knee responded in a manner that prevented the training staff and me from clearing him to do that work.

Wiseman was originally expected to be back around training camp six months after his surgery. This date was then moved back to November. Wiseman then had to wait another month for a procedure that would reduce swelling.

Steve Kerr, Warriors coach said that he did not want to speculate about any return dates. Instead, he would share updates as they occur in real time.

Kerr stated Saturday that Wiseman participated in full practice, without any contact.

Kerr stated that “he picked up everything very quickly.” “This is James’ second season. He’s got a lot of knowledge that will be very important to him when he gets back on the floor.

Wiseman’s Tuesday three-on-3 scrimmage lasted only 15 minutes. But the 7-foot-1 center was happy to see him leave the court. Curry said that this was the main obstacle standing in Wiseman’s way. He can now cross that one off his list.
