MIAMI — Jason Jenkins (the Dolphins’ senior vice-president of communications and community affairs) died suddenly just hours before Miami’s Saturday game against the Eagles. The team announced. He was 47.
The community pillar, who worked with the Dolphins from 2009 to 2009, is survived by Elizabeth, his wife and their three kids.
“Our hearts are broken, and we grieve the loss of a man whom so many people loved and cared about,” said Tom Garfinkel, Dolphins Vice Chairman and President and CEO. “Jason served faithfully the Dolphins organization for fourteen years. He was a beacon within the community, an innovator and champion for other causes, and above all, he treated people with kindness, respect, and dignity that left an indelible mark on all those he came into contact with. His wife Elizabeth and his three children are our deepest sympathies and support.

Jenkins, who came from the San Francisco 49ers’ media department, was promoted to his position in 2015. Jenkins was responsible for many community outreach programs at the Dolphins, Hard Rock Stadium, and Miami Grand Prix. He helped to create the Dolphins’ “Football Unites” platform. He also served as the chairman of Dolphins Challenge Cancer. This largest fundraiser in the NFL has raised more that $53 Million for the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Houston native and Texas Tech grad, the Houston native was a board member of several South Florida organizations including Anti-Defamation League Florida.
Jenkins’ funeral arrangements are to be announced at an undetermined date.
