Jaxson Hayes, New Orleans Pelicans, charged with domestic violence and battery against a police officer in connection to July arrest

New Orleans Pelicanscenter Jaxson HayesAccording to court records, he was indicted for domestic violence, resisting arrest and battery against police officers following his arrest last summer at Los Angeles.

Hayes was indicted on 12 counts, including three counts each of inflicting bodily injury to a spouse, two charges of domestic battery, one charge of battery against an officers, and one count each of false imprisonment, vandalism, aggravated trespassing, and one count resisting arrest.

According to court records Hayes was charged Jan. 20. He was arraigned on Monday morning.

“Since before charges were filed, The Pelicans have worked with the NBA in the matter and will continue doing so moving forward,” the team stated in a statement.

After Los Angeles officers had called to Hayes’ home, Hayes was detained in the early hours on July 28th 2021.

According to the LAPD, Hayes was at the residence’s front yard when he met officers. Police said that Hayes tried to block officers from entering the house after he was informed by officers that he needed to speak to someone.

The incident was captured on video and shows officers using a Taser to subdue Hayes during the struggle.

Because Hayes was arrested with excessive force, the LAPD’s Force Investigation Division was also investigating the case. On camera, officers applied force to Hayes’ neck.

Hayes played in 33 games for the Pelicans this season and averaged 6.8 points and 3.4 rebounds.
