Scarlets full-back Johnny McNicholl and wing Johnny McNicholl signed a new contract to prolong his stay in Llanelli.

The Wales international arrived in the region after joining the Super Rugby side Crusaders back in 2016. However, the terms of his most recent deal have not been revealed.

New Zealand-born, the 31 year-old has played 99 matches for the West Wales region.

McNicholl said, “I have had many great moments in Scarlets jerseys since I arrived here form the Crusaders.”

“The Dublin title win, the European campaign the following year. With the fans behind us and in the stadium, we will be able to get back up to the same levels and challenge again.

McNicholl is a member the Guinness PRO12 side that won 2017’s Guinness PRO12 crown. He has 44 Scarlets appearances, including seven of eight this season.

He said, “I have really enjoyed my rugby season this year.” “We might not have the best results, but we are trying to improve our game under a new coach and I believe there is much more to come.”

McNicholl, who made his Wales debut at the 2020 Autumn Internationals, played in three matches last year along with the opening match and closing match of this season’s Six Nations.

He joins Ryan Conbeer (Sam Lousi), Scott Williams and Rhys Patchell in agreeing to new Parc y scarlets deals.

Dwayne Peat, Scarlets’ head coach, stated that Johnny was a great leader and player this season. He is an integral part of our team.

“He is a player that can create something from nothing, and embodies what kind of attacking game you want to develop here.”

“Johnny is a long-standing player, has a family in Wales, and has established himself as an international player. We are thrilled that he signed a new contract.
