Josh Manson, 30 years old, from Anaheim Ducks to add defensive depth to the Colorado Avalanche’s short-handed team

The Colorado AvalancheThe first major move made ahead of the NHL trade deadline next week was acquiring Anaheim Ducks defenseman Josh MansonMonday’s draft pick in exchange for Drew Helleson, unsigned prospect, and a 2023 selection in the second round.

Monday night, the announcement was made via social media by both teams.

Manson (30) is a pending, unrestricted-free agent and has drawn the interest of several clubs. Anaheim received 50 percent of Manson’s $4.1million cap hit in this transaction. Although the Ducks are three points from the playoffs, Manson’s age, and Anaheim being in rebuilding mode made it unlikely that Manson would be considered for the position of general manager. Pat Verbeek.

Helleson (20 years old) was a second round pick in 2019, and is currently playing for Boston College. Right-shot defenseman Helleson just had his best season as a junior. He netted four goals and 25 point in 31 games. He was also part the 2021 Team USA World Juniors roster which won gold, and just represented the U.S. in the Beijing Olympics.

Colorado has been at the top of the league standings throughout the season and is now eyeing not just the No. Colorado is currently the No. 1 seed in Western Conference and has a long playoff run ahead. The team just announced the defenseman Samuel GirardManson will take over as the injured player for four weeks. The veteran plans to become a stay-at home defender for the Avalanche, adding some physicality to Colorado’s finesse.

March 21 is the deadline for trades
