Kevin Colbert, Pittsburgh Steelers General Manager, is resigning after the April draft. He could still be with the team in a new role

PITTSBURGH — Forever SteelersArt Rooney II announced Friday that Kevin Colbert will be the general manager following the 2022 NFL draft.

Rooney stated, “We have left it open, Kevin, and I, for him to possibly fill an ongoing role following the draft.” “We will begin a search for a new GM immediately. We won’t likely make a hiring decision until after the draft. Interviews will take place. We have already interviewed Omar Khan (and Brandon Hunt) as in-house candidates.

Colbert’s impending departure will make Mike Tomlin the only remaining member of the Steelers long-standing nucleus. Rooney confirmed Friday that Tomlin would continue his three-year contract with the Steelers.

Colbert has been working on year-toyear deals since the close of the 2019 season. Colbert often maintained that he would continue to be around as long the quarterback. Ben Roethlisberger. Roethlisberger announced that he would be retiring after 18 seasons of service on Thursday.

Steelers are known for their preference to hire in-house. Khan, the Steelers’ vice President of Football Operations, and Hunt the Pro Scouting Coordinator, are the best candidates for the job. Khan has been with Steelers since 1991, and Hunt for the past 14 years.

Colbert, who was with the Steelers for 22 years, assumed the role of general manager in 2010, after having served as director of football operations for a decade. Colbert has been with the Steelers for two Super Bowl championships and three AFC Championships.
