Lightning’s Pat Maroon is mocked by a broadcaster. He donates to charity

Tampa Bay Lightning Forward Pat Maroon NESN broadcaster Jack Edwards ridiculed him during Tuesday’s game between Tampa & The. Boston Bruins. He now uses that negative attention to create positive change in his life.

Edwards, the Bruins’ long-time play-by–play announcer made some pointed remarks about Edwards’ 6-foot-3 winger’s height. He also referenced Maroon’s streak of championships in St. Louis and back to back titles in Tampa.

Andy Brickley, NESN’s color commentator on color, joined in to keep Edwards’, 65, going on Maroon for more than 30 seconds.

“[Maroon] Edwards stated that the listed weight is 238 pounds. That was Day One of Training Camp. It’s possible that he has had more pizzas in the time between then and now. Fasting. Pat Maroon can fast inadvertently for up to four hours, without ever eating. But, [he’s won] Three [Stanley Cups] All in one! His formula is undisputed.

Maroon decided to give back after the seemingly random comment. The 34-yearold Maroon took to Twitter Wednesday to share that he made a $2,000 donation in Edwards’ name to Tampa Bay Thrives (a non-profit supporting those suffering from mental illness, bullying, and substance abuse).

Maroon encouraged followers to give their donations as well. His teammate Steven Stamkos The Tampa Bay Lightning foundation praised Maroon for his commitment to raising awareness about mental well-being and immediately supported him.

Maroon was retweeted by Stamkos via Twitter: “Well done Patty!” “Donating now!”
