IRVINE, Calif. — Los Angeles Rams Large receiver Van Jefferson Head coach Sean McVay announced Monday that McVay will undergo a minor surgery Tuesday to repair his knee.
McVay indicated that the Rams expect Jefferson out in “a few months,” but he wasn't certain about Jefferson's availability to play the first season. After his surgery, McVay stated that the team would have a better idea of Jefferson's expected return time.
McVay stated, “It was really good news that we got on it,” McVay said, “He's in great spirits. “We'll get his knee checked out tomorrow.”
McVay claimed that the injury is the same one Jefferson sustained in an injury towards the end 2021 season. However, it is in a “different” area. Jefferson stated to reporters that he was 100 percent healthy after undergoing surgery during the offseason.
McVay stated that the Rams had “lessened.” Matthew [Stafford]Stafford's work load today at camp meant that he was able to participate in the individual reps and not the team drills. McVay stated that Stafford is still feeling some pain, but it's nothing to be concerned about.
Stafford did not throw during spring workouts because he had an injection to his right elbow. This was due to an injury that he suffered for part of last year.
McVay stated that McVay could “push through it.” He's been competing in team situations and throwing. We felt that it was sensible to just take one week at time.
“… It is important for him to feel well and healthy by September 8. While he could push, and he could get through it, that is not the goal for someone like him. We don't care about it. We want to be smarter with someone that is as important and intelligent as our quarterback.
