The Blue Jays, despite having fought for the last month to host an American League Wild Card Series in their often raucous ballpark were mostly silenced the past two days as the season abruptly ended against the Mariners.
Toronto was expected to make it long into the playoffs. These were largely due to the team’s offensive success over the final weeks. They rallied after the Blue Jays finished August 13-14.
Toronto finished 22-11 in its 33 final games and won five of six of the six that preceded the postseason. Toronto’s win over Baltimore on Monday secured the AL’s top Wild Card spot as well as home-field advantage for the round.
