Thursday’s announcement from the Devils stated that Brodeur agreed to a multi-year extension of his contract to stay with them.

Brodeur can now focus on New Jersey’s hockey operations. His responsibilities include player recruitment, player scouting, and oversight of the team’s goaltending training department.

Brodeur (50) had been involved in business development for the Devils since 2018. General manager Tom Fitzgerald brought Brodeur on board as an advisor to the hockey operations team in 2020.

Fitzgerald stated in a statement that Marty was a great resource for me because of his knowledge, insight, and relationships across the hockey world. It is sensible to give clarity and formality to his roles within the organization. It is exciting that he has agreed to stay with us as we work together to bring New Jersey back to the level of success Marty achieved as a player.

Brodeur was a Devils player in 21 of his 22 NHL seasons. He also led the Devils to three Stanley Cup championships. Brodeur is the NHL’s all time leader in more than a dozen categories including regular-season wins (691) and shutouts (125) and he won the Vezina Trophy as league’s top goaltender for four times before retiring in 2015.
