FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — New England Patriots quarterback Mac JonesWho? sustained a high left ankle sprain Sunday’s defeat to the Baltimore Ravenshe deflected questions regarding his recovery time on Monday.
Jones repeated the words “day-by-day” or “day-to day” nine times during a videoconference with reporters at Patriots’ facility.
“I’m going just to take it day after day, get my treatments and do what is best for me. He said, “Just see how I feel.” Coach is available to answer any additional questions. [Bill] Belichick. I think he enjoys these questions.”
Jones was in great pain when he jumped off the field Sunday. Jones laughed and smiled as he shared his line about Belichick who, it is known, doesn’t like talking to reporters about injuries.
The Patriots (1-2), visit Green Bay Packers (2-1) Sunday. Belichick stated early Monday that he would not speculate on Jones’s fate if he was placed on injured reserve.
Jones agreed with Jones, saying that it is difficult to predict what will happen. Just get your treatment and you’ll feel better the next morning. From there, you can grow. … I’m waiting for the time to pass, and I’m just letting it unfold, feeling how it feels. I honestly just want to get my rehab started and make it through tomorrow.
Veteran Brian Hoyer Is the Patriots’ fourth-round draft pick and top backup Bailey Zappe Western Kentucky was the No. 3 option.
Long-serving captain Matthew Slater Monday was the question that was put to me by the Patriots about how they might respond if Jones were not there.
He stated that he hoped we wouldn’t have to figure it out but he believes we’ll be able to respond in the right manner. “We are very early in our season. If we don’t manage it correctly, this could turn out to be a disaster.”
Hoyer has lost 11 consecutive start, which is the longest active streak in NFL.
The Packers are currently the NFL’s longest active streak of winless regular-season home games with 14 consecutive wins.
