New Orleans Pelicans sign Jose Alvarado, point guard, to a multi-year contract

The New Orleans Pelicans converted point guard Jose AlvaradoMonday’s multi-year agreement will transform the two-way contract into a multi-year one.

ESPN was informed by sources that the contract will be for four years and includes guarantees for the remainder of the season and 2022-2223. There will also be a non-guaranteed season for 2023-24, and an option for the team for 2024-25. Alvarado becomes extension eligible in March 2024.

As the season progresses, Alvarado’s minutes have increased. Alvarado has been playing an average of 20.3 minutes per night since the All-Star break. Alvarado’s eight most recent games have seen him average 11.4 points and 5.1 assists while shooting 48.0%. Alvarado leads rookies in plus-minutes, as the Pelicans are +163 during his 721 minutes.

Alvarado became eligible for play-in tournaments and the playoffs when the Pelicans signed him to their 15th and last roster spot.

Alvarado signed the contract at the Pelicans facility Monday, on what was supposed be an off-day for players and coaches, but a few of his teammates. Brandon IngramAnd Willy Hernangomez– made sure that they were there when he signed his deal.

In a similar move, the Pelicans waived their guard Tyrone WallaceAlvarado’s final spot will be created by his 10-day contract.
