New Orleans Saints’ WR Michael Thomas to begin camp on PUP, should return soon’

New Orleans Saints Large receiver Michael Thomas Training camp will be held on the physically incapacitated list. However, Mickey Loomis, the Saints general manager, anticipates a swift return to practice.

Loomis said that Thomas would return “soon” but didn’t provide a timeline.

Loomis stated that he doesn’t think he will be on the track for very long. He’s just not ready to go full throttle yet.

Thomas, the 2019 Offensive player of the year, was unable to play last season due a injury that occurred when a fellow teammate rolled up on Thomas’s ankle in the season opener against Buccaneers on September 13, 2020.

Thomas was able to return to seven regular-season games in 2020. He also participated in the team’s playoff run in that year. However, he began the 2021 seasons on PUP due to ankle surgery. Thomas was expected to make a comeback in the second half. However, he announced in November that he would be out for the entirety of the season due to a setback.

Loomis reported that Thomas hasn’t suffered setbacks that have led to the PUP designation. Thomas is still rehabbing his ankle and has not been able to participate in offseason practices. However, he was able to watch one of the open practices in June.

Dennis Allen, Saints coach, said that he spoke to Thomas on Tuesday when veterans arrived at the facility.

Allen stated that he had a great conversation today with Allen. “I like what?” Mike Thomas While I wish there weren’t any issues, that is not the nature of our situation. It feels like, and it is, he will be there soon on the practice fields, and we will start getting him ready to go for the season.

Thomas is among a few players who will be on the PUP List when camp begins on Tuesday morning. Defensive end Marcus Davenport He will also be starting PUP immediately after having his pinky partially amputated in the offseason. Safety Tyrann Mathieu For a personal reason, he was excused.

Defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon Closed end Nick Vannett Both camps will be held on the nonfootball illness list.
