New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom (shoulder), is nearing his return from throwing 60 pitches in simulated games

PORT ST. LUCIE (Fla.) New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom After throwing 60 pitches in five innings during a simulation game at the spring training facility, he is close to recovering from a stress reaction in right scapula.

Two-time Cy Young Award winner, he was originally scheduled to throw live batting practice Tuesday. However, he was forced to postpone the event two days later after experiencing muscle soreness in one shoulder.

DeGrom has made three minor league rehab starts already, the latest being last Thursday at Triple-A Syracuse.

The right-hander, who is 34 years old, has been out of action since spring training. However, he was expected to be back shortly after the All Star break. The Mets don’t know if he’ll be making any minor league starts prior to being activated.

New York hosts the second half of Friday Night at Home against the San Diego Padres.

DeGrom has not pitched in major leagues since July 7, 2021. DeGrom missed the second half last season due to right forearm tightness, and a sprained left elbow.
