Couturier continues to be sidelined by the injury that was disclosed when training camp opened earlier this year. Couturier has not participated in drills and preseason games.

Although Couturier has not been identified by the Flyers, he had back surgery in February. He missed the remainder of the season after Philadelphia fell short of making the playoffs. Couturier signed an $82 million, eight-year contract extension in 2021. He finished the season with 17 points in 29 of his games.

Couturier was a first round pick by the Flyers in 2011. He has played every season for Philadelphia. Couturier will start this season with 180 goals, 460 points and his entire career.

In the offseason, John Tortorella was hired by the Flyers as their coach. This is an expected rebuilding season. Alain Vigneault & Mike Yeo coached the team to a 25-46-11 record and finished last in the Metropolitan Division.

They will open the regular season against the division-rivals Oct. 13. New Jersey Devils.
