PITTSBURGH Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Mike MathesonAn upper-body injury sustained in Thursday’s loss to New Jersey left him out indefinitely.
Mike Sullivan, Penguins coach, said Matheson is in good health. Matheson is not yet known when he was injured. In a 6-1 loss, Matheson skated 19:04. This was Pittsburgh’s third consecutive defeat.
Matheson, who is part of Pittsburgh’s third defensive pair, has scored seven goals and provided 14 assists in 50 games. Chad Ruhwedel.
Pittsburgh recalled P.O. Joseph from its American Hockey League affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to provide depth ahead of a visit by the New York RangersSaturday. Joseph has played in four games this season, but has not recorded a point.
