Police — Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith was driving at 96 mph before being arrested for DUI

BELLEVUE, Wash. — Seattle Seahawks backup quarterback Geno SmithAccording to a Tuesday arrest report, he was arrested for driving under the influence after he was pulled over by the Washington State Patrol for driving at 96 mph in 60 mph zones and driving erratically through several lanes of traffic.

Smith was taken into custody Monday morning after the Seahawks returned from Arizona following their last game of the season. According to the arrest report, the trooper observed that Smith had “strong odors of intoxicants” and noticed that the driver was having trouble seeing. Smith admitted to the state trooper that he had drunk wine earlier in the evening, but that he stopped drinking within 90 minutes of being pulled over.

Smith refused to take a preliminary breath sample and a judge issued him a warrant for a blood test. According to the report, Smith was taken to hospital after becoming agitated prior to the blood draw. The Seahawks’ director for team security was present to calm him down. Troopers wrote that restraints were used in order to complete the procedure.

Smith was then transferred to King County Correctional Facility. Later Monday, Smith was released on $1,000 bail.

Jon Fox, Smith’s lawyer, released a statement Monday stating that his client is cooperating in the investigation. Fox said, “I hope everyone can maintain an open mind until the facts are established.”

Smith is just finishing his third season in Seattle with the Seahawks. He enjoyed the longest playing time during his tenure. Smith appeared in four games while he was also a starter in three. Russell WilsonDue to finger surgery, Smith was unable to play. Smith threw 702 yards, five touchdowns and one interception.

He is currently on a one-year deal and will be an unrestricted free agent following the current NFL season.

Smith appeared in only one game his first two seasons at Seattle.
