Premier 15s – Worcester v Wasps postponed. Exeter claims last-gasp win

Exeter players celebrate
In September, Exeter beat Harlequins, the defending champions.

Exeter won the Premier 15s against Harlequins in Exeter’s last kick. Worcester v Wasps was delayed a few moments before kick-off.

Worcester and Wasps were all set to play at Sixways, but the match was canceled because the matchday ambulance hadn’t arrived.

Patricia Garcia’s penalty at Sandy Park secured Exeter an 18-17 victory, which means they remain third on the table.

Harlequins, the champions, led for most games.

The Chiefs couldn’t handle Quins’ driving maul, and Chloe Edwards scored the first of three attempts using the move.

Zintle Magupa scored her first try at Exeter, and Garcia converted. Quins led with another maul as Jade Konkel made it to the finish.

Garcia kicked 3 more points, before Exeter’s pack was again overwhelmed and Hannah Duffy scored for Exeter.

Hope Rogers’ Exeter debut attempt cut Harlequins’ lead by two points. Garcia’s kick with time in red was enough to win.

A spokesperson for Worcester said that the last-minute delay was due to an ambulance not arriving on-site. Staff tried to make arrangements to enable kick-off to proceed.

“After exhausting all avenues, both match officials and clubs decided that the fixture wouldn’t go ahead. Player safety was the most important consideration.”
