Premier Hockey Federation changes All-Star Showcase location to Buffalo, due to COVID-19 restrictions

BUFFALO — The Premier Hockey Federation is moving its 2022 All-Star Showcase in Buffalo to avoid COVID-19 restrictions from Toronto. This would severely limit the number of people who could attend.

According to the league’s Wednesday announcement, the All-Star Showcase will still be held on January 29. According to the PHF Toronto will be hosting next year’s event. Toronto was initially chosen as the host for this year’s event to coincide with their debut season at home, the Toronto Six.

They were founded in 2020, but they spent their first season competing with five other league teams at Lake Placid, New York. This was due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Buffalo, the home of the Beauts will host the event for the second time. In its inaugural 2015-16 season, the All-Star Game of the National Women’s Hockey League was held in Buffalo. The first game was played in Buffalo’s Harborcenter. This year, the game will take place at Northtown Center in suburban Buffalo.

The showcase will see All-Stars divided into three teams, each team competing in a round-robin format. The champion is determined by the number of goals.
