Premier Hockey Federation raises the salary cap for the remainder of the season and next season

BOSTON — The Premier Hockey Federation will increase team salary caps for this season and next, in conjunction with an expansion of the U.S-based women’s league.

PHF announced that each of the six teams can spend an additional $10,000 to increase their talent pool beyond the $300,000. The new rule allows for 26 players to be on a roster, and the ability to dress 18 skaters each game. This is an increase of 25 and 17.

Two additional teams will be added to the league’s cap, which was previously increased to $750,000. Six teams currently exist in Boston; Toronto; Newark (New Jersey); Danbury, Connecticut; Buffalo (New York); and St. Paul.

“These changes reflect PHF’s long-standing commitment of providing opportunities for professional athletes, and our goal of recruiting world class talent to the teams,” stated Tyler Tumminia (who is resigning following the season). “This is another positive move forward as we reach the peak of this historic year and look to future growth of both the PHF, professional women’s hockey in North America with dedicated resources unlike ever before.”

These adjustments are made amid reports that Tumminia is preparing to resign and the possibility of selling the Minnesota Whitecaps. Paul Krotz, a League spokesperson, said that Tumminia cited personal concerns when she told the board of governors in Jan that she would be stepping down after two seasons.
