Premiership promotion: Exeter boss Rob Baxter says he is’very disappointed’ that no side will be promoted

Rob Baxter
Rob Baxter was the man who promoted Exeter from the Championship in 2010.

Rob Baxter, Exeter director of rugby, described the decision not to promote Doncaster or Ealing to the Premiership as “very disappointing”.

Baxter stated, “I want promotion and relegation.”

He told BBC Sport that he wanted the door to open because he believes it’s morally right.

Baxter was the champion of Exeter in the 2010 Championship title and has since been President. gone on to establish the club as one of the best in England– Winning Premiership titles in 2017, 2020, and every Premiership final since 2016.

Rugby Football Union says neither Ealing or Doncaster have grounds that can hold a minimum of 10,000 people, but Doncaster claims otherwise. they will appeal against the decision.

Premiership Rugby plans to support clubs in coping with the financial consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic will ensure that no side is relegated from the top flight.

Baxter added, “At the exact same time though, I also know how difficult it was to meet some minimum standards.”

“I think it’s important to have some reality in ensuring that the minimum standard is set at the right level, so that it can be achieved.

“Anyone who watched us during the season when we got promoted, they saw that we had built a terrace at bottom of pitch. We started building it before we knew if we would be promoted.

“That’s probably what’s the problem, isn’t? That so much must be in place before it’s possible to know if you’re being promoted or not. It’s also a huge financial burden.

“I would be a hypocrite, if I said that Exeter should stop because they’re here now. It shouldn’t. It should always be present, active, and available to all teams that are able to achieve it.”
