Marcus Smith, an Englishman, led the way with a 24 point individual score as Harlequins, 2021 Premiership champions, ended Sale’s unbeaten start.

Smith converted his try for the second score of his team’s first-half, adding to Nick David’s opening try. Smith also kicked five penalties.

Sale briefly led after Sam James’ attempt was followed by two Rob du Preez kickes.

Quins led 17-10 at break and then beat their hosts.

Sale’s hopes to start the season with a sixth straight Premiership victory were ended by Smith’s dominating performance. Smith kicked four second-half penalties and one more from du Preez. Quins took their third win of this campaign.
