Rugby League World Cup: Michael Cheika promises to do justice to Argentina and Lebanon

Michael Cheika said he would do “justice” to the Argentina and Lebanon teams he coaches. Both sides will be in action within 48 hours.

In their Rugby League World Cup quarterfinal, Australia will take on Lebanon in Huddersfield.

Two days later, Argentina’s rugby union side against England at Twickenham.

Cheika said, “We just have to figure out how to get it done. Make sure we try both things really well. I’m sure that we’ll find a solution.”

“We have been waiting for this week for quite some time and now it is here. I need to get across it and do justice to both sides.”

He added, “It’s probably going be one day here and one day there. We’re at a World Cup so everything needs to be in place first.

“We have done extensive preparation work with the coaches in Argentina. They were there from Sunday to Wednesday last week with the team.

“We had permission for a camp and I was allowed to spend a couple days with them because they had days off.”

Cheika, a Lebanese-American, coached his native Australia in the 2015 World Cup final of rugby union.

Sunday’s 74-12 victory over Jamaica Also confirmed was Lebanon’s place at the 2025 Rugby League World Cup, France. This came after what Cheika called a “crazy” week in which the team had two break-ins at its Manchester base.

Cheika was unable to retrieve her laptop from the first incident, but team kit was later taken.

He also revealed that his players had been confronted by another intruder Saturday.

“We had another invader last night,” he stated. “They claim we are part-timers. I believe the security work that we do at the moment is the other part of our part-time job.

“Someone entered the team room. “I don’t know what happened but they called me. I settled the matter and the police took over.”
