SANTA CLARA CA — After a slow start San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Trey LanceHe found his feet and helped his team keep their playoff hopes alive for another week.
Following Sunday’s win of 23-7 against the Houston TexansThe Niners were not slow to think about what the next step would be at their most crucial position. The 9-7 Niners must win against the Los Angeles RamsHelp (or support) next week in order to secure a postseason seat.

Shanahan stated, “If Jimmy can do everything perfectly and is 100% healthy, then we’ll definitely go along with Jimmy.” We’re not going to just throw in a guy after a game like this, when Jimmy has been doing it all year. It’s going be difficult for Jimmy to be 100%. However, Trey did a great job. We won’t hesitate if Jimmy is unable to go. But if Jimmy feels confident and can go, Jimmy will go.”
As they try to determine their best option for week four of the season, it will be an interesting week for the 49ers quarterbacks.
Shanahan said that Garoppolo would resume starting duties if the right thumb is strong enough for him to throw the ball and handle it. Garoppolo’s thumb is torn and it’s likely that he will not be fully recovered in the next week.
With an eye towards a possible return against the Rams, the Niners intentionally kept him out last week of practice. Shanahan claimed Friday that Garoppolo would test his thumb throwing on Saturday or on Sunday. But that didn’t happen.
Garoppolo did not attempt to throw this week so the Niners believe he will be able to test it leading up to the Rams game. But when is that to happen?
Shanahan stated, “Just talking with him yesterday, I had an almost certain idea that we weren’t going to push him today.” “I think that he’ll manage it this week. However, that’s just my honest guess. We’ll hopefully have a better idea by Wednesday.
Shanahan answered Shanahan’s question about Garoppolo being “100%” for next week. He acknowledged that not many players are as healthy at this point in the season.
Shanahan stated, “If Jimmy feels 100% and you know this on Monday, that’s great.” “I doubt that this will be the case. We’ll have to watch how he plays over the course of the week. We need to be ready for both.
Shanahan and his 49ers counterparts will be able to enter the Rams game without Garoppolo. He will make his second NFL appearance and first since Oct. 10. Arizona CardinalsLance was a little shaky when he began the win against Texas.

Lance said, “I clearly am with Jimmy every day questioning him how he feels and all of that.” He was making progress, I know. At the end of the week, he was still frustrated that he couldn’t go. It’s not a problem where I’m always available to go. It’s my job. If Jimmy is healthy, he will be the man. If not, I’ll do my best to fill in the role.
