Seattle Mariners reliever Casey Sadler indefinitely out with right shoulder injury

PEORIA, Ariz. — Seattle Mariners right-hander Casey SadlerScott Servais, Scott Servais’ manager, stated Sunday that he had injured his right shoulder. He will not be able to work for some time.

“We’ll have the decision to make, but we’ll be watching,” Servais explained.

The 31-year old had a 0.67 ERA in 42 games, which included a franchise record of 29 consecutive scoreless appearances.

Sadler suffered from inflammation in his shoulder last year, and was forced to miss nearly three months. He was back in July and is now one of the top American League relievers. He was a frequent reliever for Seattle’s starters and didn’t seem to be affected by pitching with runners on the base.

Sadler, who is entering his seventh season in the big leagues, is 6-4 and has a 2.86 ERA through 101 games. He was saved by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Servais indicated that he is open to exploring other options in his search for a reliever who can take over Sadler’s duties in the fifth or sixth innings.

He stated, “More game are won or lost during those innings than in the later innings, so we will look at different options as far as pocket guys,” “We might use high-leverage guys in those spots more often than we did in the past, but the plug and play is not something I have.”

Unless Jerry Dipoto makes a deal with Seattle, Seattle will still use the closer-by committee, Servais stated.

Seattle has not yet Drew Steckenrider, Paul Sewald, Diego Castillo Ken GilesAt the back of its bullpen. Giles is not as ready to pitch in a Cactus league game like the other pitchers.
