Ohtani replied, “I’m actually happy that you said that,” when asked about his role as the face of the sport. It’s why I came here, to be the best baseball player I can. Hearing the words “The face of baseball”, is very welcome to me. It also gives me more motivation because this was my first truly good year. And it’s only one. It gives me more motivation and energy to continue my efforts and enjoy more wonderful years.”

Ohtani also commented on the notion of baseball losing relevance in America’s national consciousness.

Ohtani stated that baseball was born in America and that he personally wants it to be the most loved sport in the United States. “I would be happy to contribute in any way that I can to make this a better sport. Major League Baseball has tried to improve baseball’s rules over the years, but Ohtani stated that these changes weren’t necessary.

Ohtani declared, “Honestly I’m satisfied” “No need to make drastic changes.”
