Source says Matt Gono, New York Giants offensive tackle, is likely to have a career-ending neck injury.

EAST RUTHERFORD N.J. New York Giants Offensive tackle Matt Gono According to ESPN, the injury could end his career.

Gono, 26, was operated on his neck by the surgeons last year. Atlanta Falcons. He missed the entire 2021 season, but signed for the Giants during the offseason. He was happy to be in camp.

However, problems began to emerge this week after the Giants’ first fully-padded practice. Gono noticed symptoms in his neck and decided to leave the team to visit the doctor who performed it. Those close to Gono’s offensive tackle believed that his football playing days were over.

The Giants gave the exempt/left squad status to Gono earlier in the week. Gono will be subject to further evaluation and testing when he returns to the Giants’ facility on Friday.

Gono was a strong candidate to be New York’s swing-tackle this season, behind the first-round picks Andrew Thomas And Evan Neal. He was the second-team right tackle during training camp’s spring and early parts of summer.

He is now out of the picture, leaving the Giants without a suitable replacement. Josh Ezeudu (rookie offensive lineman) was thus forced to miss practice.

Gono signed an $1.2 million, one-year contract with the Giants in this offseason following his Falcons dismissal. Signing included $100,000 of his base salary.

The undrafted, free agent from Wesley College, played in 21 career games, including four starts, while he was with the Falcons.
