The Czechia family, Palat’s, had previously organized a party to watch Game 5.
“My parents texted me that there were 80 people there. It was two o’clock in morning. It’s great to feel the support back home, even though the game is late,” Palat said.
Palat is a favorite player among his teammates. After playing for coach Jon Cooper in the AHL, the winger joined the team in 2012-13.
“All that I can say about Palat, is that he plays alongside some of the top players in the World every year, and he always gets the third man talked about on this Line. Cooper said that Cooper is the only player on Palat’s line who would talk about him the most. He just does his job. He gets rewarded because of his efforts. Everybody in the room knows what Palat has done for this organization. And every year, I feel like we have the same conversation about Ondrej Palat during the playoffs.”
The Lightning avoided elimination with a surprise road win thanks to Palat’s goal. They had lost Game 4 in overtime and were eliminated by the Lightning. The Avalanche was greeted by a large crowd eager to witness the Stanley Cup being presented on their home ice. These fans left after seeing Tampa Bay win the game and forcing Colorado to catch up.
“We had no choice. This is a do or die situation for us. This group did a fantastic job of staying focused on the present. It was a difficult place to win. Just play solid games and give yourself a chance. We did just that tonight. Captain: “We won one game.” Steven Stamkos.
Cooper stated that it wouldn’t have been right to see the series end in five games.
“It is just one game,” said he. “We can’t blame anybody for anything that happened tonight except for the fact everyone has to go home, everybody must get back on a flight. If you take a look at this series, do you think it was meant to run six or seven episodes? Damn right it was. There are two really good hockey teams. We are looking forward to seeing all of you in two nights.”
