NASHVILLE (Tenn.) — Malik Willis, Liberty's quarterback, is now free to go. Tennessee TitansThe second of their three-round picks in 2020's NFL draft.
Friday night saw the Titans move up to select Willis at No. After sending a third-round selection (No. 90) and a fifth round pick (No. 169) Las Vegas Raiders.
Willis was widely predicted to be a first round pick. The NFL invited Willis to Las Vegas for the draft. This honor is usually reserved for a player who's likely to get selected in the first round.
Willis, despite the long wait, remained in Las Vegas to be selected. He was thrilled when his name was called and celebrated with his family.
Jon Robinson, Titans general manger, stated that Willis' excitement was palpable while they were calling each other.
Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny PickettHe was the only quarterback to be selected in the initial round. Pittsburgh SteelersHe was ranked No. 20. Desmond Ridder, a Cincinnati quarterback, was selected second. Willis at No. 1 was 10 picks behind. 74.
Willis ended last season at Liberty with 2,857 yards passing, 27 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He was also an outstanding performer during week-long Senior Bowl practice.
Robinson described Willis's “good arm, athletic, and moves around well” as Robinson. Robinson said Willis has a great skill set and can throw a good baseball. Although he is tough to tackle, he still has a lot to learn like all rookies.
