ARLINGTON (Texas) — Tony Beasley, interim manager, was the first candidate to be interviewed for the Texas RangersChris Young, general manager, hopes to complete the’managerial search within three to four weeks.
Young claimed Friday that Beasley would become the only internal candidate, but he didn’t specify who or how many others would be interviewed.
Young stated, “We started off with a large master’s list, and now we’re narrowing it as we speak,” two days after the Rangers lost their sixth consecutive season.
Young did not respond to questions asking if the search could continue without Bruce Bochy being notified if he is interested.
Bochy, 67 hasn’t managed the team since 2019, when he left after 13 seasons and 13 titles with The. San Francisco Giants. Young was a Bochy player with San Diego in 2006.
Young earlier admitted in media availability that he enjoyed playing for Bochy.
“We had an enjoyable season together. Young shared that he was calm and steady, which helped me learn a lot. He is a man I have great respect for. He won three world championships with Giants and is a great manager and person.
On Aug. 15, the Rangers fired Chris Woodward, fourth-year manager. This was two days after Jon Daniels, president of baseball operations, was also fired. Texas finished 68-94, eight more wins than 2021, but Young stated that it was only half of what Young had expected.
Texas’s record under Beasley was 17-31. Young was also Beasley’s manager in minor leagues. Young stated back in August that Beasley would not be judged on just win-loss records or how the team performed.
Young said that “We knew we had a young group coming into the club, and that they would have to be exposed at the major league level.” “He did a great job with what we wanted in culture, management, and those things.
Young took over the baseball operations of the team Young pitched for when he was a child. Daniels had been the club’s GM for 17 years and was the team’s president. Before joining the Rangers in December 2020, he was an active player for five major league teams and worked in the Major League Baseball office.
“The goal of winning is that we win often when we begin to win. Young stated that it is important to focus on the front end. “This offseason will be crucial to ensure that we move on to the next stage.”
Young also stated that the Rangers will be looking for top-line starting pitchers through free agency or trades.
