LOS ANGELES — Game 1 of WNBA Finals between the Connecticut Sun and the Las Vegas Aces takes place in southern Nevada at 12 p.m. PT. The game was over 85 minutes later and took place 280 miles away. Las Vegas Raiders The season kicks off at Los Angeles Chargers.
Mark Davis, owner of both Las Vegas teams, is currently in Southern California because he decided to attend the season opener for his football team. He shared his list of pros and con’s with ESPN on Saturday night.
Davis exclaimed, “I feel like a single parent who has two children. Each one of them has something to do on the same days at the same times, and you have make a decision.” It was a difficult decision, but I made the right choice to go to the Raiders’ game after thinking it through. Josh McDaniels, the Raiders’ first coach, had the Aces playing at home. Because the Aces (have the Las Vegas crowd) and they’re rabid fans, I don’t know how much I’ll be missed.
“So, it was logical to do that. If we play in a fourth game next week and must play in Connecticut, I will be there at the Aces game. It will be a crucial game.
The Raiders host the Arizona Cardinals On what would be Game 4 in the WNBA Finals. Davis admitted that he cannot remember the last Raiders home game he missed.
Davis stated, “What I have also said is that the Aces don’t seem like a hobby to me; it’s the real thing to me.” “I am fully committed to this, I fully support it. They are professional athletes, and we can bring a championship down to Las Vegas. That’s what you’ve seen happen with Jerry Tarkanian’s (the UNLV Runnin Rebels men’s basketball team) in 1990. Maybe this time it will happen again.
Davis, who was surrounded in the lobby by selfie-seeking fanatics and was granted every photo wish, also discussed how he didn’t like Game 1 against the NFL’s Kickoff Weekend.
He said, “It’s difficult for me to understand why and how.” I don’t know the source of the decision. It could be the networks, the league or both. However, they must rethink the decision. It is absurd to bring the first game in the WNBA Finals…to face the opening game in the National Football League. People will hopefully hear this and perhaps they’ll have two TVs in their bars. I really hope that people will… put one of these TVs on while they’re watching football.
It doesn’t make sense. “We’re trying get eyes on the WNBA league and that’s where you get media contracts. That’s probably the most important thing we want right now. We want to try to get a contract that will allow these women to have more money or at least be able for the teams to operate. It just makes the situation more difficult. They’ll argue that it makes the argument harder because they’ll point out, “Well, they didn’t get very many eyeballs in your Finals (ratings).” They will use it to negotiate. It’s not going stop us. We will get there.”
Davis stated that he doesn’t know enough about the Raiders on the eve before the opening because the star players — quarterback — are not familiar with the team. Derek CarrWide receivers Davante Adams Hunter Renfrow, tight end Darren Waller, left tackle Kolton Miller, defensive ends Maxx Crosby Chandler Jones Linebacker Denzel Perryman — Didn’t play in the preseason.
McDaniels’ McDaniels coached the Raiders to a 4-0 win in exhibition games.
Davis stated, “I have seen the preseason, and I’ve also seen some practice but we haven’t really seen the ‘ones’ go yet.” It will be fascinating to see.
“It’s really thrilling. We have all the weapons we need on offense. We’re very proud of our offensive team. Now, we’ll have to see how the defense performs. It can be very exciting. We’ll see.”
