BALTIMORE — Camden Yards’ fans wanted to give Trey Mancini A nice message of thanks – just incase
The Baltimore slugger then lifted a routine flyball to the right and it became a wild ride around the bases.
In what could have been his last home plate appearance with Baltimore Orioles, Mancini hit an in-the-park homer. Baltimore was blanked. Tampa Bay Rays Thursday, 3-0
Mancini stated, “I’m at a loss for words about that,”
Jordan Lyles For the Orioles who won three of four from Tampa Bay and went 4-3, they pitched well into the sixth. They are now ahead of Tampa Bay by three games in the American League wild card race for the final wildcard. It is the first consecutive winning season since 2016.
Lyles (8-7) and Mancini (7-8) could be traded by Baltimore’s team. They have seemed to be in rebuilding mode during much of this season but it’s unclear what they will do now that the Orioles are in contention. Baltimore won 10 games in a row before the All-Star break and held its own against two strong AL East rivals on this homestand.
Mancini scored one in the eighth inning and the Orioles were up 1-0. Fans cheered. He scored a fly to the right. Josh Lowe Mancini had difficulty finding the ball, and he missed it. Mancini circled the bases after the ball hit his left side.
Mancini, Baltimore’s designated batter, gave a curtain call just before the ninth to address the cheering crowd.
“I was actually just down in the tunnel putting up my helmet, shin guards, and elbow guards. Tyler Nevin Mancini explained that the men came down and said they were calling me my name.” It meant a lot. “I don’t know what tomorrow brings, but I wanted every moment of this day to be a reminder.
Mancini has been a shining light during the Orioles’ difficult rebuild. After being treated for stage three colon cancer, Mancini won Comeback Player Of The Year honors in last year’s AL.
Manager Brandon Hyde stated, “He’s somebody that has been through what he went through.” “We’ve had great conversations on and off the field, and he has opened my eyes to many things. I consider myself a close friend.”
